In the Inbox today, GVSHP alerts us that tonight’s Manhattan Community Board 2 Waterfront Committee meeting will feature a presentation of a community alternative for the development of Pier 40.

The Hudson River Park Trust has determined that two proposals (one called “the People’s Pier,” featuring swimming pools and ballfields but which may not be financially feasible; and another by Related Companies, deemed “Vegas on the Hudson” by some detractors), meet its requirements, but has not moved forward with either.

According to GVSHP, “The Pier 40 Partnership (P40P), a consortium of neighborhood residents and community leaders, will be making a presentation to the Waterfront Committee of Community Board #2 regarding their feasibility study for an alternative approach to development of Pier 40.  P40P has been reaching out to and meeting with neighborhood groups, and looking for ways to restore and operate the pier which are compatible with the concerns and desires of the community.”

Details: Tonight, 7:30 pm – Church of Our Lady of Pompeii, 25 Carmine St., Father Demo Lower Hall.
