At the end of October, the NYC Office of Emergency Management released its Draft 2008 Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan for public review/comment. The plan was developed in collaboration with more than 30 stakeholders, including representatives from government, the private sector, academic institutions, and community organizations. It contains a citywide risk and vulnerability assessment, as well as mitigation strategies for the following natural hazards:
- Coastal Erosion
- Coastal Storms
- Drought
- Earthquakes
- Extreme Temperatures
- Flooding
- Windstorms/Tornadoes
- Winter Storms
The plan is available on the website linked above, as well as in a number of libraries in all five boroughs, as listed on the site. The public comment period is open until November 30, and comments can be submitted here.
