Despite much community opposition, the Department of City Planning approved its proposed rezoning of 125th Street at a meeting this afternoon.

According to Chair Amanda Burden’s statement, DCP made a few modifications to the plan, including, “a modification to reduce the potential residential presence on the corridor” by prohibiting residential lobbies on 125th Street in buildings that also front on the Avenues or Boulevard, or on 126th or 124th streets. Another modification was made to the proposed “Arts Bonus,” which incentivizes the creation of non-profit visual and performing arts space and rehearsal space, to ensure it will be used by “bono-fide (sic) non-for profit organizations.”

The proposal now has 50 days to be considered by the City Council.
